Book Birthday: A Vote for Jesus Releases Today!

A VOTE FOR JESUS EBOOK FRONT COVERA Vote for Jesus, an old-fashioned political satire that confronts modern politics, releases today. While bookstores unfortunately remained closed due to COVID-19, print and ebooks can be ordered through Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Books-a-Million, IndieBound, and of course, hundreds of individual independent bookstore websites.

The story, ripped straight from today’s headlines, focuses on a poor carpenter from Bethlehem, PA, who takes on ruthless six-term Senator Herod Antipas. Determined to run a clean campaign, Jesus runs into a buzzsaw of dirty money, dirtier ads, media spin, incessant polling, and repeated calls to change his image. If Jesus wants to win this election, he’ll need a miracle.

The story parodies plenty of today’s best-known political names, events, and campaign missteps. When Herod wants to build a border wall, he suggests filling a pit with chupacabras because they’re native to the area. When Jesus flips over tables in the temple, he’s branded an atheist. These and plenty of other funny but believable scenarios make A Vote for Jesus an enjoyable read. It also introduces new political terms like “constituentocracy” and “schizophresident,” all pulled from the mind of a power-mad Lucifer, but you’ll need to read the story to find out exactly what they are.

Okay, I will admit this book was a lot of fun to write, but poking fun at those who should be poked is what satire is all about. Kirkus Reviews calls A Vote for Jesus “clever” with “moments of on-the-nose satire,” and I’m sure if you love the way late-night comics handle politics, you’ll like this book, too.
